According to the International Alumina Association, Global alumina production (including chemical and metallurgical grade) in January 2025 totaled 12.83 million tons. Month-on-month small decline of 0.17%.Among them, China accounted for the largest proportion of the output, with an estimated output of 7.55 million tons. This was followed by 1.537 million tons in Oceania and 1.261 million tons in Africa and Asia (excluding China). In the same month, chemical-grade alumina production reached 719,000 tons, down from 736,000 tons in the previous month. Metallurgical-grade alumina production was 561,000 tons, unchanged from the previous month.
In addition, South America was one of the main reasons for the decline in global alumina production in January. Alumina production in South America in January 2025 was 949,000 tons, down 4% from 989,000 tons in the previous month. Alumina production in Europe (including Russia) also fell by 1,000 tonnes in January from the previous month, from 523,000 tonnes to 522,000 tonnes.
