Recently, the latest data released by the General Administration of Customs shows that China’s primary aluminum imports in March 2024 showed a significant growth trend. In that month, the import volume of primary aluminum from China reached 249396.00 tons, an increase of 11.1% month on month and a surge of 245.9% year-on-year. The significant growth of this data not only highlights China’s strong demand for primary aluminum, but also reflects the positive response of the international market to China’s primary aluminum supply.
In this growth trend, the two major supplier countries, Russia and India, have shown particularly outstanding performance. Russia has become the largest supplier of primary aluminum to China due to its stable export volume and high-quality aluminum products. In that month, China imported 115635.25 tons of raw aluminum from Russia, a month on month increase of 0.2% and a year-on-year increase of 72%. This achievement not only proves the close cooperation between China and Russia in aluminum product trade, but also reflects Russia’s important position in the global aluminum market.
At the same time, as the second largest supplier, India exported 24798.44 tons of primary aluminum to China that month. Although there was a decrease of 6.6% compared to the previous month, there was an astonishing growth rate of 2447.8% year-on-year. This data indicates that India’s position in China’s primary aluminum import market is gradually increasing, and the trade of aluminum products between the two countries is also constantly strengthening.
Aluminum, as an important industrial raw material, is widely used in fields such as construction, transportation, and electricity. As one of the world’s largest producers and consumers of aluminum products, China has always maintained a high level of demand for primary aluminum. As the main suppliers, Russia and India’s stable and sustained export volumes provide strong guarantees to meet the demand of the Chinese market.
