February 28, 2010: The government and tannery associations ask the High Court to extend the relocation deadline by two years; the High Court extends the deadline for relocation by an additional six months to August 28, 2010.

The Hazaribagh tanneries make up between 90 and 95 percent of all tanneries in Bangladesh.[4] There are a handful of tanneries in Bangladesh outside Hazaribagh, located in other areas of Dhaka, as well as Jessore and Chittagong. This report does not address those tanneries.

This lack of cancer surveillance is accompanied by a lack of information on the health effects of exposure to tannery chemicals. Purono, in his early 20s, who works daily with chemicals, said: “We’re told nothing about the properties of the chemicals, like which are particularly dangerous.” [120]

Bangladesh’s Labour Act (2006) considers a child to be under 14 years old.[268] Employing children (i.e. those under 14) is prohibited although “the law allows a child 12-years-old or older to be employed in such light work as not to endanger his health and development or interfere with his education.”[269]

In addition to its overarching obligations to ensure the realization of the right to water, Bangladesh is also bound to fulfill obligations towards specific vulnerable groups. Through the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) states parties agreed to “ensure to women the right … to enjoy adequate living conditions, particularly in relation to housing, sanitation, electricity and water supply, transport and communication.”[258] The Convention on the Rights of the Child similarly includes a provision wherein states parties shall “take appropriate measures” to provide to children “adequate nutritious foods and clean drinking water.”[259] The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) also mentions measures “[t]o ensure equal access by persons with disabilities to clean water service.” Bangladesh is a party to all three conventions.[260]

The synthesis of CoL4 is very straightforward and facile: CoCl2 was mixed with KNCS in 1:2 molar ratio in methanol, producing characteristic cobalt-blue colored solution. Then, the stoichiometric amount of bzi was added during stirring. The solution was further stirred under heating for 15 minutes and then was filtered off through the paper filter. The dark blue single crystals appeared after 3 days of slow evaporation of mother liquor.

In my 35-odd years of faffing with bikes no one has ever referred to bike tyre pressure in bars, so I’m not sure of SKS’s rationale here.

The fittings are designed to be lasercut from aluminium or 3D printed. The rod ends are a simple two-piece design that slots together, before insertion into the carbon fiber rod. [Anthony] shows off a series of rods being used as linkages with a stepper motor, before performing pull-out tests on the links. Installed with cyanoacrylate glue, the link holds up to a pull load in excess of 180 lbs. The strength is impressive, and [Anthony] also talks about how to install the appropriate bearings to use the links for motion projects.

[24] Total suspended solids are those solid materials (organic or inorganic) suspended in water that can be trapped by a filter.

The temperature range may be trivial but the way they work could not be more different. Soldering is purely a mechanical joining of materials, like glue. Brazing melts the two materials, not in the manner of welding, but by forming an alloy of the filler rod and the base material.
